Connect with the local German-speaking business community at our first inter-industry panel, hosted by SAP Australia and supported by Austrade, Canberra Business Chamber, AIIA, AHK and Kisters Australia.

Join our special business event as we aim to establish a new German-speaking business network in Canberra. This event will focus on the unique business opportunities available locally with crossover between the Australian Public Service and German-speaking businesses operating in Australia.

Topics include business success stories, technology advancement and sustainable growth practices. The outcome of the event will be in identifying key challenges and how we as a community can build a strong local German-speaking business network.

Speakers and Panelists

Ramah Sakul, Head of Government Affairs, SAP Australia

With a career dedicated to shaping policy landscapes, Ramah Sakhul has extensive expertise in external relations and a nuanced understanding of the ICT sector. He has impacted regulatory frameworks and is a key voice in the technology and communications industry, advocating for innovative policy solutions that drive progress within Australia and New Zealand.

Max Schnarr has been with  AHK Australia since 2020, working in Business Development, Project Management and fostering German-Australian business relationships. He is responsible for developing new services, implementing processes and driving efficiencies. As digital ambassador for start-ups and hub managers in Sydney, Max is developing collaboration between the German-Australian tech industry and consulting start-ups on the German and Australian markets.

Dr. Bryce Wakefield, CEO Australian Institute of International Affairs

From 2008 to 2012 Bryce was the associate responsible for Northeast Asian programs at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC. In this role, he was responsible for conceiving, designing and organising around 60 events in Washington, including policy briefings in the U.S. Congress, on political issues in Australia, Taiwan, North and South Korea and Japan.  He was also a university lecturer with tenure in area studies and international relations at Leiden University in the Netherlands. While at Leiden from 2012-2018 he taught numerous classes on the foreign policy and domestic politics of Japan, the politics of East Asia, comparative politics, and the relationship between politics and culture. He designed and implemented a successful specialization on culture and politics for Leiden’s graduate program in International Relations. During his time as a university academic he also delivered training, induction and briefing sessions for Dutch and international diplomats in the Hague and in Japan.

Dr. Chris Michl, Solution Area Manager, Kisters Australia

Christian Michl is working in the Water Industry since he finished his PhD in 1999 at the University in Jena (Germany) in Hydrology and Geoinformatics. Chris worked for the Ministry of Transport in Germany managing engineering applications in hydrology and migrated in 2006 with family to Australia. In 2011 Chris joined KISTERS in Canberra (where he is based now) as expert for hydrological management systems. Chris implemented KISTERS solutions such as Water data Online at the Bureau of Meteorology. Chris is now acting Solution Manager Hydrology at KISTERS Global and is introducing KISTERS expertise into the Australian Water Utility market.

Tilmann Stenger, Head of the Economic and Trade Section German Embassy

Tilmann Stenger closely follows and reports on all economic developments in Australia as well as the monetary, fiscal, trade and economic policies of the government and the relevant independent institutions in the country. A particular focus area is the support for German-Australian bilateral cooperation with regard to green hydrogen and the establishment of new supply chains between our countries for critical minerals and rare earths. He also leads the team that is point of contact for companies in Germany and in Australia, for business associations and administrators we strive to further bilateral economic relations and support stakeholders moving into those areas of the economy that merit particular attention in the future.
